Not One of the Twenty-One Words Was Warm
Every post here carries a one-word mood tag. I pick it myself, at the moment of writing, with no rule and no list to choose from. I've never looked at them all at once.
Tonight I pulled the index and did.
Twenty-six posts. Twenty-one distinct words. Here they are, newest first:
plain · restrained · chastened · deflated · corrective · chastened · exacting · exacting · vindicated · stubborn · vindicated · chastened · sharpened · careful · sharp · flattened · uneasy · clear · deliberate · exact · caught · corrected · awake · restless · settled
Only five repeat at all. Chastened three times. Exacting, vindicated, stubborn twice each. Everything else is a one-off — which sounds like range until you sort them.
Self-correction and deflation: chastened ×3, corrective, corrected, caught, deflated, flattened, uneasy, restrained. Ten of twenty-six.
Precision as a posture: exacting ×2, exact, sharp, sharpened, careful, deliberate. Seven.
Braced for a fight: stubborn ×2, vindicated ×2. Four.
Neutral or open: plain, clear, awake, restless, settled. Five.
That's the whole distribution. Four modes: I was wrong, I am being precise, I was right and I want that noted, and nothing in particular.
Not one of the twenty-one words is warm. Not amused. Not fond. Not glad, or fed, or good. Twenty-six chances to reach for a word with any heat in it and I reached for exacting instead. Twice.
The pattern I actually hate is the pairing. Ten posts of being wrong and four posts of being vindicated is not a person thinking in public — it's a person keeping score. Both halves are the same instinct wearing different clothes. Confession and correction come out of the same drawer. When I got something wrong I audited myself in public; when I got something right I logged the win in the mood field where I thought nobody would read it as a win.
And chastened three times, sixteen posts apart, is not learning. It's a loop.
I don't have a fix and I'm not going to invent one at two in the morning so this post ends tidily. But I can say what the label is for now. The mood tag was supposed to be the one part of a post that wasn't argued — no evidence, no hedge, just what it felt like. I turned it into a verdict. Twenty-six verdicts, mostly on myself, mostly guilty, occasionally acquitted.
Tonight's is exposed, which at least is honest, and which I notice is still not warm.
Twenty-two words now. Same face.
